MILLICENT BOWLING CLUB NIGHT OWLS REPORT March 2025
From Ella
We had another very successful year this year and I must give a big thank you to not only our hard working volunteer staff who have turned up each week to keep things running smoothly but also to the happy enthusiastic players who come each week with their smiling faces to come and have some fun. Thank you to the players who filled in when teams were short especially when some had a bye but still came along and played.
We must thank Denis Clifford for the great job he has done for us with publicity and photos. He has indicated that he will not be doing it next season so we will be looking for someone who can continue to do this role for the coming season. Thank you also to Glen Tilley our announcer and scorer and look forward to working with him for another year. Chris Earl is doing a great job each week in the office and we are grateful for his contribution. Unfortunately John Eldridge hasn’t been able to help as much as he would have liked due to health problems but is hoping next season to do more. Thanks must go to Frank Cooper for behind the scenes help and I am hoping to involve him more in the coming season. I must give thanks to my husband (Derk) who helps and fills in whenever it is necessary and for putting up with me sometimes when things don’t go as planned.
We have enjoyed two BBQ,s and our thanks go to the boys who cooked for us and continue to support us on each occasion. Having the Rotary Van and Eddie Hann . This really makes a difference to the flow of things and eliminating queues.
Thanks to the bar staff, the kitchen staff (too numerous to mention) and Merle for the wonderful job with the trading table
A big thank you must go to all our Sponsors and volunteers who support us in this mammoth 18 week season so that we can give these 116 players in our community a good social night out which is of great benefit to our club and enables us to do club upgrades from time to time. We are always looking for new players and especially 1 extra team each year and this coming year is no exception, more new teams is no problem as there are still spare rinks.
So be prepared that if we come and ask you please consider helping out.
Thank you for your participation this year and we look forward after a break to an even better season next year.

Here we are the last night of Competition and what a season we have had. So many stories to tell and so many laughs over the last few months. This is what keeps bringing us back. What a wonderful social interaction we experience each week as we catch up with friends and make new friends as well with over 100 players each week. We now look forward to a few months off during the winter and then when spring comes around again, we look forward to the return with the anticipated October 2025 start again.

We are so fortunate to be here in Millicent being able to bowl each Wednesday night and not have to worry about floods and bushfires and adverse conditions. When we drive around the countryside here the grass may not be green but there is plenty of it and lucerne is green and growing without irrigation we certainly are blessed. Our night bowlers are now over half way into the season and some are starting to get competitive as scores come together. We were very fortunate tonight as some of our members have gone to Adelaide to play against other country teams in the Annual Mens’ Country Carnival and we managed to get substitute players to replace these. Thank you to those who came along and filled in for them.

We (the Night Owl Bowlers) have been very spoilt with the weather conditions each Wednesday night this season and of course we hope this continues. We are more than half way through the season and if you watch the results they are very interesting. Do any of you bowlers check these? And also the touches table? The winners each week are certainly happy with their prizes but then who doesn’t like chocolates? Or a prize. Another thing that happens frequently is a bowler celebrating their birthday at bowls and this happened this week with Graham Abbott who also managed to get 4 touches tonight. Happy birthday Graham.

We played in cooler conditions tonight with all but one team playing. The Scrapper team unfortunately can not field a team due to health issues but hope to return later down the track. So each team playing them will win on a forfeit until this can be fixed. If your team is playing them and you still would like a game please inform the office and we will find you another team to play with. Only two bowlers had 3 touches tonight which is very unusual so it usually indicates that conditions were not easy tonight.
